Nostalgia

Went back to Aljunied Chup Lao, also known as Circuit Rd, to have supper with family friends last night. and it felt so good to be back there, walking down the same old path i used to take to get to school. together with my Mum, we noticed nothing much around there has changed... except for the newly renovated hawker center.

I remember how my parents used to sat my sisters and i down at the dimly lighted makeshift tables along the big drain together with some Uncles and Aunties. they'll drink and chat the night away, and we kids will play amongst ourselves. and the only public toilet was located miles away, so usually if we kids are really urgent and need to go we'd just pee around the corner. heh.

After we moved out of Circuit road, i no longer hang out at the hawker center as often till i got into secondary school. that's when i started going back to the hawker center with my schoolmates. most of the time, for desserts and dinner. my all time favorite was Ice Kachang kosong with only palm sugar. and best of all... it cost only 50 cents.

It was really heartening to see all the familiar faces last night, ex-schoolmates, the same ol' desserts stall, same stall owners doing what they're best at (except that famous orh jian and hokkien mee queue was a bitch). sitting at the hawker enjoying your food while sweating with Hokkien songs playing in the background. hahaha. not to forget, meeting up with family friends and getting to see cute lil Ritz again.

And tonight, i'll be meeting them again for dinner at Macpherson Lane. Uncle wants to treat Regina to some famous crabs place that even LKY patronizes =.=

it happens to also be the place my family and i used to take long walks along some terrace houses just to accompany my Mum go bet on 4D. if not to steal pretty flowers and my favorite big fat juicy pomegranates. =')

except this time round it'll be me taking the bus to get there with Regina in tow.
